Lovely setting for our choir performance of Pergolese's Stabat Mater, in which we were ok the soloists were great and the organist was super helpful.
BUT OH, I need to get more comfortable shoes for the next performance!

I was in rehearsal as a guest when Coastal Sound read this piece for the first time in their terrible rehearsal space in Coquitlam with a giant mirror facing the choir.
Vienna Teng is a programmer turned musician who wrote the song as a protest piece as Facebook and particularly a firm called Acxiom started to monitor what we consume on the internet and sell our data to advertisers.

Gaze Upon the Trees - Andrew Balfour
I'm proud that @chronosvocalensemble comissioned this work, and my voice is in the reference recording for the work. It has since been recently performed at the national ACDA conference.
Balfour is a Canadian Indigenous composer, and it's always a joy to work with him.
Fun fact: the working title of this work was "waterfall in spring".

First weekend off in weeks, no students, workshops, rehearsals or concerts either paid or not. I've had such a lovely day! Went to a concert as a listener, organ music by Frescobaldi and Scheidemann played by my husband Ere, and psalms by Orlando di Lasso sung by Cantores Martini, the small vocal ensemble at the Dom church. I told Ere the Scheidemann piece grooved like a pious moose. :) The center of town was packed full with people sitting at ouside cafes enjoying the sun.
Before and after had enough time to practise choir parts, traverso parts for Matteus and baroque bassoon pieces for the next lesson some time in the future when my teacher comes back from tour. And make a pan of apple sauce. Now I'm going to continue my detective story book binge. :)

Well, it would have been really really cool to say I have JUNO winning friends, but it’s still really cool to say I have JUNO nominated friends.
The Irish premiere of a Good Friday Passion for our times: James MacMillan’s St. John Passion, hailed by Rowan Williams as ‘a landmark for contemporary music’.

Echoes of Latin motets, Gregorian chant and Bach chorales can be heard alongside Scottish folk accents in a striking, modern re-telling with Christ portrayed by David Kravitz, and the Evangelist by Chamber Choir Ireland, with the National Symphony Orchestra & Chorus.

Performed in an amazing #concert for #ImmigrantJustice last night, with the proceeds going to an organization that supports refugees new to the area. The one song I thought Jo's service dog would freak at, she handeled pretty darn well. I had to use my cane throughout the concert, which was a new experience for me, but it helped a lot. I get to sing with the group again come April 6, when we'll be singing for a service with a visiting speaker, so that will be an awesome close-out on this chapter of my experience with #JusticeChoir of the Midwest, and then at some point we'll be doing an LGBT justice concert for the fall. There's also hopefully going to be an LGBT+ choir meeting in May to perform for Pride in June, and I'm hopeful to get involved with that.
I am tired today, but it was so entirely worth it that while I know I need to rest, I have a damn good reason, which makes that easier. I plan to spend the day probably listening to some Star Trek episodes, maybe just sitting in stillness a bit, basically just generally taking it easy.

Random choir question:
Is anyone around these parts doing any of the Berkshire Choral International sessions this season? Particularly "Considering Matthew Shepard"? I am. And I know a couple of people from my choir and its sibling chorus are. But if there's people from here, give me a shout.

For #Conductors who wish to take part in #choral gatherings such as #festivals, #choir #competitions, conferences, or symposia .
How do I choose which event to attend? How far in advance do I need to plan for the project to be possible? What are the criteria for choosing my repertoire? How do I deal with organisational and budgetary issues?

Andrew Balfour, respected Cree choral composer and Juno winner, Sixties Scoop survivor, was denied entry to the US on Wednesday - on his way to perform at Carnegie Hall. Andrew spent several hours in detention before being returned to Canada: sounds like he was one of the lucky ones…
